about

They Reap is a song about council house sales and privatisation and how they ended up making the rich richer. We're recording it in September and releasing it on the 21st of that month to tie in with this year's Musicians Against Homelessness campaign. All profits from the sale of They Reap and the associated t-shirts will be donated via MAH to Crisis, to help its campaign to end homelessness.

lyrics

Take affordable homes constructed by the state
Sell them to the tenants at a cut price rate
When the tenants move on the market rolls the dice
No-one but a Tory can afford the market price
The wealthy buy the houses, they’re private-rented now
The children of the tenants are a great cash cow
You’re earning 30 thousand? - pay them 15 grand a year
If you’re barely getting by there’s a food-bank near

It’s utterly predictable
They reap, you sow

Take a service for the public provided by the state
Sell it to the public at a cut price rate
The big investors move in, the market rolls the dice
Hoover up more shares, they can afford the price
The wealthy own the service, it’s run for profit now
The public are the customers - a great cash cow
Shareholders earn millions, a bonus every year
And when they shut the service nobody really cares

It’s utterly predictable
They reap, you sow
Really quite predictable
Should have seen it coming

New election, a chance to vote for change
The storytellers tell us the alternative’s deranged
Buy into their papers, their television views
Cast your votes as usual it’s not really news
