about

This was the main point of being there. We did a small remix of the single release for the EP, just to bring the vocal back into the mix more. The message of the song is that privatisation and council house sales have both wound up moving money from the poorest to the richest, and from the public sector to the pockets of private people. That's predictable - and that's why the song uses the same three notes all the way through, and why the rhymes in verse one and two are mostly identical. Same old same old.

lyrics

Take affordable homes constructed by the state
Sell them to the tenants at a cut price rate
When the tenants move on the market rolls the dice
No-one but a Tory can afford the market price
The wealthy buy the houses, they’re private-rented now
The children of the tenants are a great cash cow
You’re earning 30 thousand? - pay them 15 grand a year
If you’re barely getting by there’s a food-bank near

Utterly predictable
They reap, you sow

Take a service for the public that’s offered by the state
Sell it to the public at a cut price rate
The big investors move in, the market rolls the dice
Hoover up more shares they can afford the price
The wealthy own the service, it’s run for profit now
The public are the customers - a great cash cow
Shareholders earn millions, a bonus every year
And when they shut the service nobody really cares

New election, chance to vote for change
The storytellers tell us the alternative’s deranged
Buy into their papers, their television views
Cast your votes as usual it’s not really news

They reap you sow
